What I'm Listening To This Week - Canadian Goodness

This blog is just a little side thing from what I usually do over at Marshmallow Fluff. This blog is simply for me to share things about music, what I'm listening to, what I'm looking forward to. Might post a review or two, but this is going to be pretty bare bones. So lets get going.

This week there's some good music that I've been discovering. Every once in awhile I have one of those weeks where I just seem to start digging up all sorts of things I hadn't heard before or wasn't aware of. This has been one of those weeks. First up is the new Daytrader album Twelve Years. It sounds a lot like older Jimmy Eat World, but also seems to have this Anberlin kind of feel to it as well. It's a very solid album, well worth a listen, it might be a sleeper hit for me, I've really been enjoying it the more I listen to it. Next up is the new Silversun Pickups album, Neck of the Woods. It's defiantly not like their previous work, still heavy on the distortion but this album has a much more shoegazey sound to it and the band really separate themselves from the "Smashing Pumpkins soundalike" label they sometimes get saddled with. There's not a lot of heavy rocking going on in this one, but the overall effort is solid. I love "Make Believe" and "Bloody Mary (Nerve Endings)".

The last band I've been enjoying is Arkells, a Canadian quintet with a great sound and a some really fun songs. Specifically, their newest album, Michigan Left, which dropped in autumn last year. I don't think I've been this pleased by something new in awhile. Lots of energy behind their songs, which is always a great thing to hear. They've got a bit of an 80's feel in some of their music, but if you like stuff like The Gaslight Anthem you'll enjoy these guys too.

So that's it for now.
